Central Croydon is the densest part of everything we cover and the shortest run we make. Croydon proper had a population of 192,064 at the 2011 census, in a borough of 384,837.

Almost every constraint here is about access rather than the size of the load. The town centre is mostly North End, which was closed to vehicles in 1989 and is pedestrianised — a van cannot reach a door on that stretch during trading hours, so a clearance there means an early start, booked service access, or a carry from the nearest legal stopping point.

The centre boomed as a business district through the late 1950s and 60s, which left multi-storey office blocks, an underpass, a flyover and multi-storey car parks.
