Waste Collection and Clearance in Selsdon

Selsdon sits about 150 metres above sea level on the southern edge of Croydon, in what was Surrey until 1965. The height is not incidental — the approaches climb, and that shapes the day more than the mileage.

It was farmland until the manor was sold for development in 1925, and from 1926 onwards the surrounding land was built out as a garden village. That gives a very consistent interwar suburb, including Art Deco houses along Addington Road, with driveways, gardens and room to turn a van.

Because the housing is largely of one era, the jobs repeat: full clearances on sale or probate, loft and garage clear-outs, end-of-tenancy turnarounds. Those quote differently from one another, so it helps to say which you have when you enquire.

Selsdon Wood is a 200-acre nature reserve opened to the public in 1936 — five large meadows inside extensive woodland and ancient hedges, now managed by the National Trust — and properties along that boundary can have longer or unmade approaches. The old estate mansion became the Selsdon Park Hotel in 1925, with a golf course laid out by John Henry Taylor.
